John Finnemore is the best comedic export from the UK since Monty Python. He is a wonderful combination of perceptiveness, razor-sharp wit, silliness and fundamental kindness. Unlike most US comedians who rely on the lowest common denominator for connecting with their audience (junk food, tv commercials, bratty kids), Finnemore assumes that you are not an idiot, and feels free to explore any topic -- literary, historical, etc. Some highlights from Series 1 include: an intervention for Winnie the Pooh's honey addiction; 500 things to do before you are 30 (a 2-minute skit that identifies and heals 90% of the world's neuroses); correspondence between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde regarding their room sharing issues; the difficulty of getting that first phone message you leave for someone you met in a bar last night just right; navigator cats . . . If you are a John Finnemore fan, and I am, you know he's one of the funniest men in Britain, nay, the world, and his "Souvenir Program" is a delight. Each series runs 6 episodes at about 30 minutes per episode.
That said, check out the run time for this purchase it's under two hours. You do the math. I wish I had paid attention before buying this. There are six tracks, but the first and last are 7-second welcomes to Audible.com. That leaves you with 4 episodes from series 1 to listen to. That's right 4. Not 6. FOUR. I don't know why the other two episodes are not included in this so-called "complete" first series, but I was very disappointed. I got my money back, but I just wanted anyone reading this to know what they're really purchasing. Caveat emptor.
Just finished listening to "John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme - Series 1 - 5" released by BBC.
John Finnemore first came to my attention by his deft and wacky "Cabin Pressure" series which followed the misadventures of a struggling one-plane airline with its equally bizarre cast of off-beat characters.
With his "Souvenir Programme" series Finnemore demonstrates his comic flare by creating this comedy sketch show that boldly has a great deal of absurditist fun - much in the vein of Monty Python. While revealing the true story behind the return of Doctor Who, to mocking The Archers, to Patsy Straightwoman, and to his zany stories near the end of each show.

Not as endearing and addictive as his Cabin Pressure series, but still lots of laughs and gentle, quirky, British humour.

I love John Finnemore's sketch comedy programmes. I have all that are available on CD and I enjoy listening over and over!
John Finnemore is brilliant. We first came across his work because of the BBC radio show, Cabin Pressure, that he writes and produces and stars Benedict Cumberbatch. We've since ordered every season of Cabin Pressure, but still wanted more. That's when we discovered John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme. We were not disappointed and I personally like it even better than Cabin Pressure.
Souvenir Programme is a hilarious sketch comedy radio show Finnemore produces for the BBC. Out whole family loves and have listened to this CD several dozen times already and just ordered the second series. Highly recommended!
